Fencing in Ashford, Kent

Careful planning makes installation simpler

Before arranging fencing work at your Ashford property, it helps to look at the whole boundary, including how we’ll reach it. A side gate may provide straightforward access, while a narrow passage, shared entrance or route through the house needs more preparation.

Send us photographs of the existing fence and the route into the garden. Include tight corners, steps and any outbuildings beside the boundary. These help us understand the space available for moving materials, taking down old fencing and carrying out the installation.

If the garden needs to remain enclosed for children or pets, mention this when you enquire so we can discuss arrangements during the work.

Planning fencing on sloping or uneven ground

Changes in ground level affect how a fence looks and how closely it follows the garden. Installing standard panels in steps creates a different finish from fencing built to follow a slope, and the most suitable approach depends on the design and the site.

We’ll consider the height of the boundary from both sides, how neighbouring sections connect and whether gaps beneath the fence could be a problem. This is especially relevant if you want to contain a dog or separate the garden from an adjoining path.

Where a boundary runs alongside a raised bed or a difference in soil level, we’ll also discuss how the soil is retained. Standard fence panels should not be relied on to hold back earth.

Working around patios, planting and existing structures

A replacement fence often needs to fit into an established garden. Patios, sheds, hedges and raised beds can restrict access to the boundary or affect where new posts can be positioned.

Tell us which features you want to retain and whether plants are attached to the existing fence. Identifying these details early gives us time to discuss any preparation needed and plan the work around your garden.

We’ll also assess existing posts and gravel boards. Where they remain sound and suit the replacement fencing, it may be possible to retain them. Where they have weakened, replacing them as part of the project can avoid fitting new panels onto an unreliable structure.

Including gates in your fencing project

Think about how you use the entrance to your garden. A gate may need to accommodate wheelie bins, bicycles, a lawnmower or larger gardening equipment, so a comfortable opening matters as much as its appearance.

We’ll discuss the gate’s position, width and direction of opening, along with suitable posts and fittings. On uneven ground, clearance beneath the gate needs particular attention so it can open freely without leaving an unsuitable gap when closed.

What affects the cost of fencing in Ashford?

The length and height of the fence are the starting points. Your choice of panels or boards, posts, gravel boards and gates will also influence the materials and labour required.

Installation costs can vary with access, ground conditions and the amount of existing fencing to remove. Old concrete foundations, dense vegetation or changes in level may involve additional preparation.

Your quote will set out the agreed materials and work, including removal and disposal where requested. This helps you understand what is included and compare options before deciding.
