Fencing in Ramsgate, Kent

A single damaged panel does not always justify replacing an entire boundary. If the adjoining panels and posts are sound, a local repair may be possible.

Where several posts are loose or the fence has deteriorated along its length, replacing panels individually may be less practical. Look at the whole run, including the rails, fixings and bases of the posts.

For an initial enquiry, photographs of the damaged section and the fence on either side help us understand the problem. If you are buying replacement materials, include measurements of the existing components.

Planning around Ramsgate’s historic boundaries

Ramsgate’s older streets include boundary walls and railings that contribute to the appearance of individual properties and the wider town. Before removing an older structure, check whether it has heritage protection and whether repair or retention would be appropriate.

Thanet District Council identifies Article 4 directions affecting specified properties in the Ramsgate, Ramsgate Marina extension and Pegwell conservation areas. These directions do not impose identical restrictions on every property or every type of work: the relevant address and direction need to be checked.

Listed buildings and certain associated boundary structures may have additional protection. Consult the council before altering a historic wall, gate or railing, or attaching new fencing to it.

You can find local information on Thanet District Council’s conservation areas page and its planning permission guidance.

Access and changes in garden level

If your garden is reached through a narrow entrance, shared passage or a flight of steps, mention this when requesting installation. Photographs of the access route help us understand how materials can be brought in and old fencing removed.

Changes in ground level also affect the layout. A fence may need to step along a slope, and the space beneath it should be considered if you want an enclosure for children or pets.

Tell us about existing walls, paving and planting that need to stay. We can then discuss how the proposed fence will meet those features.

What affects fencing prices in Ramsgate?

For supply-only orders, the cost depends on the products, sizes and quantities you choose, together with any delivery charge. Remember to account for posts, gravel boards, fixings and other components needed for the complete job.

For an installed fence, access, ground conditions, removal of the existing boundary and disposal can also affect the price.

When comparing installation quotes, check that they cover the same specification and work. Confirm whether gates, removal, disposal and VAT are included so you can compare the total cost.
